I Love Asher Roth

This is Asher Roth performing his song "I Love College" on the Carson Daily Show (I didn't even know Carson Daily had a show but thats cool). Any hip-hop-ish song about beer bonging and beer ponging gets a stamp of approval in my book. I'm also really feeling that the song samples Weezer's "Say it Ain't So" which in my opinion is the ultimate small liberal arts school anthem, at least it was at Oberlin where I went to undergrad.

The remix with Jim Jones is tight...he compares Harlem to College...

Hi,

My name is Maria and I am a DREAM Act beneficiary. I arrived in this country at the young age of 12, with my parents, from Peru. I am now 21 years old and undocumented. I have grown up in the United States and consider this country my only home. If sent back to Peru, I would be banned from the U.S. for 10 years and the chances of coming back are slim to none. I graduated from high school in 2004 and since then, it has been difficult for me to continue my education as a result of my status. The DREAM Act would help me, and students in my situation, realize our dreams of becoming active members of society by allowing us to attend school or join the military.

Currently, there is an active project on Change.org, a website that is calling on Americans to get involved and present their ideas to the new administration. Change.org has pledged to pass on the top 10 ideas on their site to Obama on Inauguration day. They have implemented a two-round voting system, round one ended on January 1st. After over 7,000 ideas and 250,000 votes the DREAM Act idea finished in 8th place with 2219 votes!

Round 2 began on January 5th, the 10 ideas with the most votes will be presented at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. as the "Top 10 Ideas for America." In addition to getting the ideas to Obama, change.org has pledged to form a national campaign for each of the issues. They have promised the support of their partners and their over 200,000 members!

Voting ENDS January 15th!!!

What you can do to help:

1) Make a post about the Pass the DREAM Act idea - http://www.change.org/ideas/view/pass_the_dream_act_now . Explain to your readers what is it and who it will benefit.
2) Place the widget, located on the right hand side of the page, on your blog to get people to notice it and vote for it.
3) Endorse the idea! To do this, click on the “Endorse this Idea” link, located on the right hand side of the screen, and follow the directions.
4) Consider voting for the other 2 immigration ideas: UAFA and CIR ( www.change.org/ideas - and search for immigration)

Also, DreamACTivist and the United We DREAM Coalition will be launching a website on January 21 ( www.dreamact2009.com ) that will become a 65,000 petition drive for the DREAM Act, signifying the 65,000 undocumented students that would benefit from this act each year. Please visit http://dreamactivist.org/petition for more information and consider joining our efforts to make the DREAM Act a reality in 2009.

Please, don’t hesitate to contact me with further questions at maria@dreamactivist.org
